Motorized Manual Follicular Unit Excision

Manual Follicular Unit Excision (FUE) – formerly known as Manual Follicular Unit Extraction – is a significant development in surgical hair restoration procedures. This method has provided major improvements in both the results and recovery compared to the prior surgical standard, Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT).
FUT involves removing a strip of skin from the scalp, dissecting the follicular units of hair, and transplanting them. FUT, as a result, leaves behind a linear scar. This scar can be noticeable if the hair on the sides and back is not kept long enough.

What Is Manual FUE?

In FUE procedures, individual hair follicles are extracted from the patient’s donor area, which is the back and sides of the head. The individual follicular units are extracted using a motorized FUE device. Manual FUE involves very tiny circular or dot-like excisions that are virtually impossible to spot when healed.
Because FUE is much less invasive than FUT, it causes far less discomfort than an FUT procedure and results in a much quicker recovery time. It also allows the patient to enjoy even the shortest haircuts after everything is healed.

Modern motorized tools make Manual FUE better than ever. They allow well-trained physicians to harvest grafts in a manner that their transplantation survival rate is greater than that of other methods. Manual FUE is highly effective, producing natural-looking results and significant advantages over prior hair transplant methods like FUT.

Pros

Less invasive than FUT method

Less post-operative pain

Faster healing

No linear scar, so shorter haircuts can be maintained

No post-operative visit required

Cons

Shaving of the donor area required

Slightly more time-consuming operation
