Alma TED®

An innovative, non-invasive hair restoration treatment, Alma TED® (TransEpidermal Delivery) can improve scalp health as well as hair growth, density, and thickness. It can be used by itself or in combination with other treatments. It requires no downtime and no discomfort. According to Dr. Ross, this is by far the most effective treatment of the various non-surgical procedures. This, combined with it being the least invasive and painless system, makes Alma TED® the most frequently requested non-surgical treatment at La Mesa Medical Hair Restoration.

We also boast one of the only two newest models of the machine in Southern California, which is much more powerful than the original TED system found at other facilities. In addition, we only use FDA-approved Alma TED® serum during our procedures, rather than the “knock-off” concoctions that some other locations use to cut expenses.

How Does Alma TED® Work?
Alma TED® combines a proprietary topical solution featuring 33 different hair growth factors and nutrients to nourish the scalp with an ultrasound wand that creates micro-channels for better absorption by the scalp. Four of the ingredients are anchoring proteins, which lengthen miniaturized follicles so they are more firmly held to the scalp and generate thicker and longer hairs.
The first stage of the procedure (priming) uses an ultrasound wavelength that essentially opens the pores of the scalp for roughly 30 minutes. The second stage uses a different wavelength of ultrasound to drive the serum through the pores and into the scalp without the use of needles. The wand is FDA cleared as a class 1 device, so you can feel confident that it poses little to no risk. Hearing aids must be removed prior to the procedure.

Alma TED® can be used by those just beginning to lose their hair, those who have already experienced hair miniaturization, those who would just like to maintain their hair because they are unable to neutralize the cause of their hair loss (men who do not want to take finasteride, women with reduced female hormones after menopause, etc.), and those who want to just boost their hair health in general. Patients should not have any product in their hair when they arrive for their sessions.

The type of hair loss and the extensiveness of your hair loss will determine how many Alma TED® sessions you need. A typical initial series includes four sessions: one session per month for three months and a fourth session six months thereafter. At La Mesa Medical Hair Restoration, we will create a unique treatment plan specifically for your needs to create the best results.

This depends on what has caused your hair loss. If Alma TED® restores your hair to full health and you are able to remove the cause of your hair loss, then this procedure is potentially permanent. These would be cases such as when a patient loses hair due to a thyroid condition which has been corrected, due to androgenic hair loss which is effectively treated by taking finasteride, due to a tremendous cause of stress to the body (which raises body cortisol levels) which has since been alleviated, etc.

However, if the cause of the hair loss is not removed, then Alma TED® (like all non-surgical hair loss treatments) may require periodic, ongoing treatment to maintain results. After the initial course of treatment, follow-up sessions sometime between six months to one year may be recommended. The exact frequency will depend upon the severity of the initial hair loss, cause of the hair loss, and additional factors.

Alma TED® side effects are very uncommon because it is the most non-invasive treatment option. During the procedure itself, most patients report a slight ringing in their ears due to the ultrasound waves conducting through the bone to the ear drums. This is generally regarded as very mild, and patients often fall asleep during sessions because it feels similar to a head massage.
No downtime is necessary after a treatment session. There is generally no redness or any other signs that a treatment has been performed, other than the patient’s hair may look a little messy afterward. This is nothing that a comb or hat cannot cover up until you get back home. We only ask that you do not shower or submerge your head for at least four hours after the procedure.
